EFSA publication on new methodology to identify chemical risks in the food and feed chain

The European Food Safety Authority has published a new methodology designed to identify chemical risks in the food and feed chain with a likely direct or indirect effect on humans. “The overall framework and the procedures proposed … aim at developing a structured and integrated use of data and information already available for a variety of purposes.” (EFSA Report, 2014).

Bayer recommends thorough cost benefit analysis prior to REACH submission.

At the ECHA’s 9th stakeholder day in Helsinki earlier this month the Director of Policy at Bayer, Dr. Andrea Paetz proposed to the member audience the importance of making sound business decisions prior to that of registering a chemical substance.

New draft bill created to help improve EPA’s ability to monitor TSCA

Efforts are currently being made to improve regulations for the TSCA (Toxic Substances Control Act), in order to allow the EPA more effective monitoring. Current regulations are considered neither very realistic, nor practical, and are therefore difficult to implement.
