New restrictions on D5 and D6 published: consequences for the cosmetic industry

On May 16th, 2024, the European Union (EU) published regulation 2024/1328 amends Annex XVII of European REACH Regulation 1907/2006. The aim of this amendment is to restrict the use of certain silicone compounds in cosmetic products. Specifically, the substances octamethylcyclotetrasiloxane (D4), decamethylcyclopentasiloxane (D5), and dodecamethylcyclohexasiloxane (D6) are subject to new restrictions due to their environmental and health hazards.
