What are the regulatory requirements of an SDS?

The 16 SDS mandatory sections

      Main target in the event of a control, the SDS must contain 16 mandatory sections :

1. Identification of the substance/mixture and of the company
2. Hazard identification
3. Composition and information on ingredients
4. First aid measures
5. Fire-fighting measures
6. Accidental release measures
7. Handling and storage
8. Exposure controls/personal protection
9. Physical and chemical properties
10. Stability and reactivity
11. Toxicological information
12. Ecological information
13. Disposal considerations
14. Transport information
15. Regulatory information
16. other information

SDS specific requirements

• An SDS is mandatory when the substance or mixture is hazardous (under CLP, DSD and DPD) or assessed PBT, vPvB or SVHC (under REACH).

• It contains the supplier’s email.

• It is drafted in the languages of the export countries and of those that use the substance.

• When the substance is registered (REACH), the safety data sheet then lists the registration number and uses covered

NB : When a substance >10 t/year is register under REACH, RSC exposure scenarios (Report on Chemical Safety) are added to the Annexes. Then we obtained an extended SDS called "e-SDS".
