Candidate List
currently contains 201 SVHCs (July 2019) and is expected to list 1500 future references. It is called the “Candidate List” because the SVHCs listed are those assessed by ECHA before being possibly subjected to Restrictions (Annex XVII of REACH) or Authorisation (Annex XIV of REACH).
Watch out, SVHCs are added to the Candidate List every 6 months!
The purpose of the Authorisation procedure is to ensure that Substances of Very High Concern (SVHCs) are progressively replaced by other, less dangerous, substances or technologies when economically and technically viable alternatives are available.
