Definition of an SVHC

Substances of Very High Concern (SVHCs) are chemical substances that fall into one of the following categories:

Substances that are carcinogenic, mutagenic or toxic for reproduction (CMR category 1 or 2)
Persistent, bioaccumulative and toxic substances (PBTs)
Very persistent and very bioaccumulative substances (vPvB)
Substances that are potential endocrine disruptors

The SVHC list matches the substances listed in Annex XIV of the REACH Regulation, which are subject to Authorisation

The main purpose of such a list is to reduce the use of SVHCs and encourage their substitution in products containing concentrations greater than 0.1%.
